Everyone at some point in their life decides that they really, really do WANT to be healthy. They love the idea of a healthy lifestyle, and having that dream body they’ve always wanted, but when it comes to actually paying the price it takes to obtain that, the inspiration sort of…well…slowly starts to fade. How do we lose our motivation? What can we do to get motivated again?
People will start off feeling great; they have their eating and work out plan in mind, and then the process starts to become difficult, and they give up. Sometimes lack of motivation happens when people try to go from 0 to 60 in a day. If you’ve been a sedentary, McDonald’s enthusiast for the last year or so, you’re not ready to start working out an hour a day and eating salad for every meal.
The biggest tip that I can add, to help get motivated, is not to attempt a full lifestyle change right away. Take baby steps to get to your goal. Moderation is key. Eat less at every meal, but don’t deny yourself the foods you love. If you’re craving a burger and fries, share it with a friend, and eat a salad on the side.
When first starting to live a healthy lifestyle, the beginning is always going to be the hardest. Going from eating whatever you want or whatever is available, to having to say “no” multiple times is going to be a shock at first. Having to make time week in and week out, then day in and day out, is a price and a habit that will have to be formed over time. You aren’t going to carry it out perfectly from the beginning. It’s going to take failure; it’s going to take mistakes; it’s going to take getting back on track, and deciding that what you want is worth the struggle.
Being healthy is a thought process, not starving yourself. It’s deciding to make the best daily decisions today that will build a better future for tomorrow. So don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t come easy, it’s not supposed to. But when you go out of your way to be inspired to be healthy, you’ll find yourself encouraged and empowered to be the best YOU that you can be, and remembering you goal is the best way to get motivated!
